The problem

Poor posture isn't caused by a lack of knowledge.

You already know how you should sit. But once you're focused on work, posture becomes an afterthought. The drift is gradual and almost invisible in the moment — you don't notice yourself sinking lower, shoulders rolling forward, head creeping toward the screen. Nothing dramatic happens. Until a few hours later.

How it works

Four steps, then you forget it's there.

No phone app to check. No dashboard to maintain. It runs quietly behind whatever you're doing.

Clip it on

A small clip at the back of your collar or shirt. Invisible under clothing, and nobody around you knows it's there.

STEP 02

Calibrate

Sit the way you want to sit and confirm. That becomes your reference — not a generic average of other people.

STEP 03

Work

The sensor quietly checks your posture 25 times a second while you work. Nothing to open, nothing to watch.

STEP 04

Feel the nudge

Drift far enough for long enough and you get a short vibration. Three levels: subtle for a small lean, firmer for a real slouch.

What testing showed

Early testers are already reporting moments of self-correction before the reminder.

That's the whole goal. Not reminders forever — just making poor posture easy enough to notice that correcting it starts happening on its own. Five testers aren't enough to draw big conclusions. But they're enough to show us what's working — and what needs to improve next.

What still needs work

The first round of testing was just as useful for showing us what still needs work. Three things are actively being improved before the first batch ships:

The attachment. The clip works, but it isn't yet as easy to position consistently as it needs to be.

False reminders. Natural movement — reaching, turning, standing up — can still occasionally read as a slouch.

Vibration intensity. Getting the strength right across different clothing and body types is still being tuned.

A nudge, not a notification

Three escalating vibration levels — subtle for a minor lean, firmer for a real slouch. No pop-ups, no phone buzz, nothing on screen mid-meeting.

It notices when you're not wearing it

Set it on a desk and it goes quiet after five minutes of stillness, instead of buzzing at an empty chair all night. Any movement re-arms it instantly.

It protects its own battery

Vibration stops before the cell gets low enough to be damaged, and the device puts itself into deep sleep rather than over-discharging when you forget to charge it.

Works without your computer

Offline mode keeps the device correcting posture on its own — away from the desk, in a meeting, or with the laptop shut.

Nothing leaves your machine

No account, no sync, no telemetry endpoint. Your posture history is a file on your own disk, and you can delete it whenever you like.

Daily and weekly summaries of time spent in good versus poor posture, plus how often you corrected yourself. Your only benchmark is yesterday's you.

Privacy by design

No camera. Ever.

Camera-based posture tools need to watch you to analyze your posture. Aligno doesn't. It reads a single motion sensor clipped to your clothing — it measures the angle of your back and nothing else. There is no video, no image, no microphone, and no server to send anything to.

I'm an engineer with a background in software, hardware, and space systems. I started Aligno to solve a problem I kept running into myself: knowing how to sit properly isn't enough when you're focused on work.

I'm designing the hardware, building the software, and testing it with real users — one iteration at a time.

It's still being refined. The attachment, false reminders during natural movement, and vibration strength are all still being worked on.

Windows first. The macOS build hasn't been validated on real hardware yet.
